French Gilt Bronze Mantel Clock
An elegant 19th-century French mantel clock in finely cast and gilt bronze. The clock is surmounted by a finely modelled allegorical figure of a reclining maiden holding a bouquet, her flowing drapery and serene expression rendered in exquisite detail. The base is richly ornamented with foliate scrollwork, garlands, and acanthus motifs in high relief, and centred by a classical circular enamel dial (now age-worn).
This decorative clock embodies the opulence and craftsmanship of the Louis XVI Revival period, and would make a striking focal point on a mantel, console, or commode.
